Quartz Clearing

Quartz Clearing

Golden Bay

Quartz Clearing is 2.5 hours drive from Nelson and 30 minutes from Collingwood in the stunning Golden Bay region of the South Island.

Set in a secluded spot next to a bubbling rocky-bottomed stream on the property, the glamping accommodation is made up of three very unique little buildings. An elevated hut contains a queen bed with french doors looking out to the stream and bush beyond. The small log cabin a few steps away has a kitchen, lounging area and secondary sleeping space in the loft. A third hut houses a semi-outdoor bathroom with a toilet, shower and basin. Nestled amidst lush bush, an outdoor bath awaits, offering a tranquil view of the river.

Quartz Clearing is named for the Quartz Range. A beautiful mountain range is visible to the east of the site. To the West, are stunning views of the Whakaramarama Range in the Kahurangi National Park. The property is bush-clad - covered in New Zealand native podocarp forest. Birds abound - with weka, kereru, bellbird, tui, and morepork regular visitors to the property.

This is the perfect Golden Bay accommodation if you're keen to explore the region... and you won't be short on options! With beautiful beaches, walks, great cafes and outdoor activities galore - there's something for everyone in this part of New Zealand. But if R & R is what you're after - you won't have to go far for that either... just relax, and soak up the secluded serenity of your private natural paradise.

  • Your Hosts

Dave and Rachael, the owners and hosts of Quartz Clearing, were regular visitors to Golden Bay for over 15 years, before taking the plunge to move there permanently after falling in love with the area and relaxed friendly lifestyle.

They found their piece of Golden Bay paradise in 2016 and realised they had an opportunity to share it with other people who enjoy the remoteness and stunning native bush setting. It was out of this desire that Quartz Clearing was born. Using the original log cabin on the property and blueprints inside Dave’s head,  recycled timbers and iron cladding have been incorporated to create their vision of a retreat that looks like it has been in the bush forever.

Dave, a builder, originally from Martinborough, has spent time travelling through Africa, the Middle East and Central America while working in the UK. He has interests in hunting, fishing, motorcycling and back-country New Zealand.

Rachael is a mum of four grown children and an ex-Cantabrian.  She is a midwife who shares her time between Quartz Clearing and Motueka where she works as a charge midwife manager of a primary birthing unit.  She shares Dave’s interests and enjoys organic gardening and cooking and returning to Quartz Clearing to recharge and rewind from city life.
