The Cowshed

The Cowshed

Waihi

The Cowshed is located 1 hour and 45 minutes from Central Auckland, 1 hour from Tauranga and just a 5-minute drive to the town of Waihi. It's on the same property as our lovely Whiskey Creek Cabin.

The cosy, rustic-modern converted cowshed sits on a lifestyle property surrounded by native plantings and birdlife.

Accommodating up to six guests, the cowshed is perfect for two couples holidaying together or families. There are two bedrooms, both with a king-size bed in each room and a pull out double couch in the living area. With two bathrooms, an indoor kitchen and a fantastic outdoor living area - this spot has all the ingredients for a comfortable and fun group escape.

Admire the beautiful surroundings from under the pergola, morning coffee in hand. Or soak in the twin outdoor bathtubs, while the kids explore the surrounding countryside.

Watch the birdlife, smell the fresh country air, and listen to the trickling of the stream that twists through the property. Take a moment to be in the present, exist, and enjoy special moments with your friends and family.

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is in Waihi, 5-minutes away.

  • Things to do

The Cowshed is a place to put your feet up and relax or take a hot soak in the twin outdoor bathtubs amongst nature. At night, cosy up next to the campfire, toast marshmallows and spend quality time with the kids.

There are plenty of games to keep you occupied, such as petanque, gigantic pick-up sticks, Connect Four and Jenga.

If you want to get out and about, head to Karangahake Gorge to explore the beautiful Owharoa waterfall and surrounding walk tracks. There are also a few bicycle tracks nearby the property - and a bike stand available at the property for guest use.

If you are keen to adventure further afield, Tauranga is a 50-minute drive away and Hamilton is just over an hour away.

  • Your Hosts

Your hosts at The Cowshed are Holly & Lisa.

Lisa, now retired, spends her days indulging in her passion for horses, but she also lends a helping hand to Holly, who wears many hats. Holly manages everything – from maintaining the lawns to ensuring impeccable cleanliness and handling bookings.

The Cowshed was a pre-existing building, but the hosts vision has transformed it into a rustic oasis, grounded in a down-to-earth atmosphere. Their work continues as they strive to create an authentic and homely glamping experience - just like their other escape 'Whiskey Creek.'

The name 'The Cowshed' was already named when they discovered the building, and it turned out to be a perfect fit given its history as an old cowshed – a particularly fitting choice since Holly has a special adoration for cows!
