Ringa Kaha Cabin

Ringa Kaha Cabin

Central Plateau

Ringa Kaha Cabin is set in Raurimu, a small settlement just 5 minutes North of National Park Village on the Central Plateau in the North Island.

The cabin is the epitome of rustic, off-grid luxury. A large wood burner, leather seating, furs and timber-lined walls give the interior a cosy and 'ski lodge-y' feel. Carefully thought-out, the one-bedroom cabin cleverly sleeps up to six, with a mezzanine floor and fold-down murphy bed.

Sitting high on the top of a hill, vast views over bush and farmland stretch out for miles from the large bifold doors.

Just 15 minutes from the Whakapapa Village - this is a fantastic winter stay for skiers, or equally lovely for those just looking for a cosy winter escape... In summer, the options are endless - walking in the National Park (the Tongarario Crossing handy), Mountain Biking the many trails in the area - or even canoeing the Whanganui River... Or just take a few days to just breathe, take in the incredible night sky, the views and the off-grid peace and absolute quiet. Dreamy.

  • Things to do

Relax at the cabin in the hot tub...or with Mt Ruapehu and the National Park on your doorstep - there's no shortage of things to do in the area!

It’s a 15-minute drive from the cabin to Whakapapa Village, where you’ll find the iconic Chateau Tongariro Hotel and the Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre. From there, it’s a short drive up the mountain to the Whakapapa Skifield where you can ski during the winter and take the Sky Waka Gondola up year-round for sightseeing.

For keen walkers, the cabin is perfectly located for the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing one-day trek. A shuttle service from National Park can get you to and from the Crossing.

There are great mountain biking tracks for all levels in the area, including Fishers Track, 42nd Traverse and Old Coach Road. Bikes and shuttles can be organised through My Kiwi Adventure at National Park Village.

The Whanganui River Journey is classified as one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. National Park Village itself has restaurants, bars and activities on offer -  Mini Golf and Indoor Rock Climbing - great for rainy day fun!

  • Your Hosts

Ringa Kaha (Armstrong) Cabin is located on a small farm owned by Armstrong's siblings, Hayley, Mark, Jason and Angela.

The 80-hectare property was purchased nearly 20 years ago, together with their late father Bob Armstrong, as a base for hunting, fishing and skiing. The Cabin was built four years ago by Mark and decorated by Hayley. Alongside the accommodation, the Armstrongs run beef and sheep on the farm paddocks while the rest of the property remains in regenerated native bush.
