The Chapel

The Chapel

Auckland

The Chapel is located in Waitoki, only 35 minutes from the heart of Auckland.

The Chapel is a perfectly tiny one-bedroom cottage, nestled at the back of a lush, two-acre garden.

As you step through the front door, you're greeted with a welcoming open-plan lounge, kitchenette, and dining area - complete with a wood burner for cosy evenings in front of the fire. With lofty ceilings and a soft palette, the interior is stylish, restful, and calm.

A separate bedroom has a queen-size bed for two and double-doors that open out to a shaded sitting area. A pull-out sofa in the lounge can sleep an additional two extra adults or children.

Outside, the front porch is the place to while away an afternoon, with a pretty view over a tranquil pond.

To make the most of your stay, pack a picnic basket and blanket and venture into the paddock to find a scenic spot beside the stream. The friendly goats will be happy to see you - and share your lunch given half a chance!

In the evening, spark up the brazier. Enjoy a glass of wine and some quality conversation before jumping into the outdoor bath for a soak before bed. Bliss.

  • your hosts

Your host at The Chapel is Louise.

After spending two decades in the UK, Louise was drawn back to New Zealand to put down roots in her hometown. Waitoki is a place that captured her heart with its enchanting gardens and pretty trees. Her ancestors used to walk through Totara Valley, where The Chapel is situated, on their way from Mahurangi to Rewiti Marae.

The main house on the property is a stunning villa from the early 1900s. This was relocated to the property 25-30 years ago to make way for the new theatre at Diocesan School for Girls. The Chapel itself began life as a wedding ceremony venue for the previous owner's daughter's wedding - hence the name 'The Chapel'. It has remained a cherished part of the property - and Louise is delighted to give it a new lease of life as guest accommodation.
