Te Hāpua Wetlands

Te Hāpua Wetlands

Kapiti Coast

Te Hāpua Glamping is set on the coastal dune zone on the Kapiti Coast, close to Te Horo Beach, and just 1 hour from Wellington City.

Perfect for a couples escape, the Te Hāpua Wetlands Tent, sleeping up to five, is also the ideal family or group accommodation in a very special setting. The tent sits next to a wetland lake - one of New Zealand's most rare and precious ecosystems and recognised locally as an area of special significance.

Decked out with a luxurious 4-poster queen bed, a bunk room containing 3 single beds, and lots of comfortable seating - everything has been thought of for comfortable glamping. A spacious verandah to the front of the tent is a great gathering space for socialising and watching the wetland wildlife in comfort.

The property is 700 m from the beach access and 1 km from the water's edge. Head down for a swim and some beach action or enjoy a gentle walk at sunset. If you want to go further afield check out some of the local activities - there's horse riding, bush walking at Otaki Forks, or bird-watching at the Nga Manu Nature Reserve.

In the evening kick back, relax, and jump in the hot tub (big enough for the whole family) for some soaking and star-gazing.

  • Eating and Drinking

Te Hapua Glamping is self-catering. Just bring your own food and cook meals using the BBQ and equipment provided in your private camp kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans, and utensils that you'll need. There is a Nespresso machine so if you like a good coffee bring som Nespresso pods along with you.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage and feel like a meal out, check out The Salt and Wood Collective (great craft beer) or The Front Room in nearby Waikanae (6 minutes drive or a 20-minute cycle down the beach).

The Bus Stop Cafe at Te Horo beach is a great place to grab a coffee and a scone.

The nearest supermarket is in Waikanae, 6-minutes drive away.

  • Things to do

Te Hāpua Glamping offers plenty of fun to keep you entertained during your stay. From soaking in the hot tub and taking in the Kapiti Island sunset view to toasting marshmallows on the brazier in the evening - you'll find it hard to tear yourselves away.

The beach access is just a 10-minute walk down a safe country road - great for swimming and walking the dog.

The local area has plenty to keep you busy too! Swim at the nearby beaches, check out the outlet shops in Otaki - or get into nature. Nga Manu Nature Reserve is just down the road in Waikanae and Otaki Forks has some great short bush walks to enjoy.

  • Your Hosts

Your Hosts at Te Hāpua, Charlie and Kelly Meyer and their three kids George, Harvey and Rosa have lived on their coastal property for three years, and have been on the Kapiti Coast since 2006.

Charlie was formally in the sports retail industry and Kelly is a Registered nurse. The boys are both at secondary school and Rosa goes to the local primary school in Te Horo.

The whole family love the outdoors and all five have contributed to the ideas and concepts that have now become Te Hāpua Glamping.

They are very proud of what they have created on their land on the Kapiti Coast and look forward to sharing their unique piece of paradise with you.
