Woodpecker Hut

Woodpecker Hut

West Coast, near Punakaiki

Woodpecker Hut is set on a coastal clifftop property on the famous Great Coast Highway, halfway between Greymouth and Westport and just a seven-minute drive from Punakaiki (site of the 'Pancake Rocks'). It's a great base to explore this stunning region.

Woodpecker Hut consists of two small, off-grid timber huts, adjoined by a covered outdoor kitchen and living area. One hut is the master bedroom - with a luxurious king-size bed. The other is a comfortable lounge hut with a wood-burning stove. Built by a local builder and artist, the huts have been crafted right down to the position of the nails. Waney edge weatherboard and native timber lining give the huts a rustic, natural charm. The interior decor is cosy but contemporary. Soft furs and natural fibres add to the feeling of simple luxury.

The views from every window of the huts are amazing. Facing north toward the ocean, they enjoy the all-day sun. A cedar hot tub set into the deck at the front of the huts offers the perfect place to while away for a few hours. Soak in steaming hot water and gaze out at the spectacular ocean view.
