Black Robin Bush Hut

Black Robin Bush Hut is just 15 minutes from the centre of Wellington, yet feels a million miles away.

Past the iconic Brooklyn wind turbine, down a winding road, and only a short distance from the boundary of the Zealandia Wildlife Park, Black Robin Bush Hut sits nestled in the regenerating bush.

This little hut is a masterclass on small space living. A walkway through the bush leads you up to a small but incredibly sweet bedroom hut, with an attached, semi-outdoor kitchen and dining space. Cleverly arranged platform-style decks provide multiple places to soak in the outdoor bath or sit amongst the bush and enjoy the thriving birdlife.

The view from the hut takes in the valley toward the West - across the bushy hills of Long Gully Station. On a good day, you'll get a glimpse of the Marlborough Sounds.

A stay at Black Robin Bush Hut really is the best of both worlds! Spend your day in the buzz of the big city, visiting Wellington's famous cafes, restaurants and boutique shops... In the evening, immerse yourself in nature with your peaceful, quiet, and completely private little bush hut oasis.

For access to Black Robin Bush Hut - Wellington Windturbine, Brooklyn 6021

Black Robin Bush Hut is 15 minutes from Wellington Central and accessed via the Windturbine in the Wellington suburb of Brooklyn. We recommend you self-drive to Black Robin Bush Hut and don't rely on taxis or Ubers as drivers often struggle to find this location.

Follow the Google Maps directions in the link above to get to the Wellington Windturbine - and then refer to the written instructions below to get to Black Robin Bush Hut from there. On your way to the Windturbine, note that there is an automatic gate operating off Ashton Fitchett Road in Brooklyn that you'll need to go through as you turn up to the Windturbine Road. The open hours for this gate are April to October - 8am to 5pm, and November to March - 8am to 8pm. Outside of these hours you will need to text your hosts, Nigel and Anika, so that they can open the gate remotely for you (their contact details will be provided to you in a pre-arrival email 5 days prior to your stay).

Once you get up to the Windturbine - drive through the carpark and through a second gate. You'll need a code to get through a further locked gate. Make sure you make contact with Nigel and Anika prior to your arrival so that they can text you the code. From here, you'll drive approx 2 kms to Southerthread Road. Turn right down Southernthread Road and then take the first right at the hairpin bend. You'll see a sign on this road saying 'Long Gully Station Private Road', but continue on that road until you come to the first house on your right. You'll see a Massey Ferguson Tractor at the drive way. Turn up this driveway and drive up to the house. This is your hosts', Anika and Nigel's house.

Note: If you have booked within 5 days and haven't received a pre-arrival email with your host's contact details shortly after booking, please email us at [email protected].
