Aristos

Aristos

Mangonui, Northland

Aristos is set in the Far North, approximately 4 hours from Auckland and just 8 minutes from historic, picturesque Mangonui Village.

The glamping accommodation is situated on a ridge overlooking an olive grove and backing onto an extensive pine forest, with expansive views of rolling green hills. Mangonui Village and Harbour, Doubtless Bay and Karikari Peninsula are all visible from the hilltop site.

The beautifully styled lotus belle tent has a cosy queen bed and sofa for relaxing. The cabin, 12 metres away, has a kitchenette with a breakfast bar - a great spot for your morning coffee. Bathroom and shower facilities are also nearby. A designated fire pit area is perfect for relaxing with a bag of marshmallows in the evenings.

There is a wide range of birdlife, including tui, piwakawaka, pheasants, California quail and karearea. At night you may hear the haunting sound of a morepork calling.

Aristos is a perfect break for couples looking for seclusion and respite from a busy city lifestyle. There is something very special about waking up to the sound of bird calls from the bush. Rest the mind and soul. Aristos is the peaceful escape you've been yearning for.

You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need. Outside, in a sheltered area next to the cabin is a gas BBQ.

If you want a break from cooking at any stage and feel like a meal out, check out The Remarkable Cafe and Fish Restaurant, Mangonui Fish Shop (world-famous fish n' chips!), Jesse's on the Waterfront and The Thai.

Coopers Beach, a 10-minute drive away from the campsite, is the place to go for delicious coffees, gelato and treats - try out BeachBox then head to the beach to swim!

The nearest shop selling necessities is Mangonui - a 5-minute drive away. There is a large Foursquare in nearby Coopers Beach, Countdown and New World Supermarkets in Keri Keri, 45 minutes away and Pac n Save in Kaitaia, 30 minutes away.

  • things to do

With a relaxing hammock amongst the trees, local history and art books, board games, cards, art activities (make a memento of your stay at Aristos) and outdoor games - there is plenty to keep you entertained at the property.

Brew your morning coffee and take a stroll through the grove, and learn about olive growing and oil pressing. There is a platform overlooking the forest that's perfect for a picnic date, and a short forest walk afterward.

There are plenty of fun activities to do in the Mangonui region. Your host also provides boogie boards, beach towels, and a small shade tent for those wanting to bring to the local beaches, ie. Coopers Beach, Cable Bay (both 10 mins away), Taupō Bay and Taipa in Doubtless Bay - also, Tokerau and Rangiputa beaches on the Karikari Peninsula (35 mins away).

  • your hosts

Your hosts at Aristos are Yon and Clive, and cats Mooshy and Sapphy.

Six years ago Yon and Clive decided to leave Auckland - and headed for a country living lifestyle in Northland Te Tai Tokerau. Yon and Clive are artist-educators and photographers. Clive also looks after the grove on their beautiful property.

They love Mangonui - how clean the air is and how clear the milky way is at night. Their property consists of 450 olive trees on a peaceful and secluded piece of land. Yon and Clive want to open these experiences up for others who seek a place and time to pause and reflect and re-energise.

Their Aristos also includes an art and teaching studio…which offers workshops in a range of media including drawing, painting and photography. They can also provide you with a personalised portrait photography session, and even print out a high-quality Giclee print and frame it... if you’re interested, have a chat with your hosts about it prior to your stay.

'Aristos' comes from Aristaeus, the protector of herdsmen and hunters. Aristaeus was essentially a benevolent deity; he introduced the cultivation of bees, the vine and olives. His name is derived from the Greek for “best”. Yon and Clive have a mission to be one of the best glamping places in Te Tai Tokerau Northland, and offer you one of the best holiday experiences!
