Erehwon Cabin

Erehwon Cabin

Canterbury

Erehwon Cabin is located in North Canterbury, only 5 minutes from Okuku and 45 minutes from Christchurch City.

More substantial than many of our other glamping options, this rustic cabin, loaded with atmosphere, is the perfect place for couples or families wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life without giving up the luxuries of home.

The cabin is filled with a feeling of warmth. Unique furniture pieces are dotted throughout. With two cosy bedrooms and an open-plan living and kitchen area, there's plenty of space. The stylish bathroom has a luxurious bath and laundry space is also provided - making this the perfect spot for an extended stay in the country.

A stroll through the property takes you to Okuku River, where you can fish, swim, or relax by the water's edge. On the way, say hello to the friendly horses and sheep.

As night descends, cook up a pizza feast in the pizza oven before treating yourself to a soak in the outdoor wood-fired cedar hot tub under the stars.

  • eating and drinking

Erehwon Cottage is self-catering. Just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the gas stove and electric oven provided in your kitchen, and BBQ located on the deck. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots, and pans that you'll need. You're also welcome to harvest any vegetables from the garden.

In the evening, cook up a storm with the wood-fired pizza oven on the lawn (perfectly paired with a glass of your favourite under the starry night sky!).

Rangiora, 18 minutes away, or Oxford, 25 minutes away, offers a delightful array of restaurants and takeout choices. If you're willing to venture a bit farther, Christchurch City is 45 minutes away with even more exceptional dining options.

The nearest store for stocking up on food and supplies is in Rangiora.

  • things to do

There are plenty of ways to unwind at Erehwon Cabin... Relax in the outdoor lounge chairs next to the wood-fired pizza oven, have a tranquil picnic on the lush grass, or opt for a hot soak in the lovely cedar wood-fired hot tub.

A leisurely stroll of just 5-10 minutes will lead you to a picturesque riverbank where you can go fishing or just chill. Along the way, you can greet and interact with the horses and sheep on the property.

For those inclined to explore the region, a 12-minute drive will take you to the Mount Thomas Forest Walk. A 17-minute drive takes you to the Glentui bush walk, which can extend to a walk to Mount Richardson.

  • your hosts

Your host at Erehwon Cabin is Samantha.

Samantha and her horses found a spot to call home and she created a cabin next to the Okuku River, which offers stunning natural beauty - right on her back doorstep.

Samantha has embarked on a different journey in her life, while keeping her beautiful property and her retired horses there, allowing others to enjoy the charm and explore the countryside experiences.

'Erehwon' is 'nowhere' spelled backward. As the property feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, it's just you, nature, and the birds!
